MAY HEALTH AWARENESS: STROKE
Welcome to Christ villa Health Awareness column, my church, your church, our church a place of impact.
The health awareness topic for the month of May is STROKE, and we shall be looking at the definitions of stoke, types of strokes, statistics, risk factors and signs & symptoms of stroke.
What is Stroke?
In a simple term, stroke can be referred to as a “brain attack”. Just like heart attack, stroke requires the same urgency to reverse cerebral ischemia (lack of oxygen to the brain). Stroke occurs when there is a blockage in the passage of blood to the brain (Ischemic)or when a blood vessel in the brain ruptured (Hemorrhagic). These can cause permanent damage to the part of the brain resulting in long term disability or even death.
